Predictions for June 5

After last night's thrilling opener, we now look forward to 3 games tomorrow and a barrage of "2 games a day" for nearly two weeks. Here are my predictions for the game this Sunday:

Who: Jamaica vs. Venezuela @ 5 PM ET
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
Watch: FOX, Univision, UDN (TV); Fox Sports Go, UDN app (streaming)
Prediction: 1-1: Jamaica will be pleased with a tie, while Venezuela will be disappointed that their tournament woes will continue. Jamaica could very well be the 2014 Costa Rica squad (they're from Latin America, placed in a hard group, and have a strong keeper in Andre Blake; who's below next to ball). I expect Venezuela struggling with most of their chances, and Jamaica getting only a few shots, but they make it count with an eventual equalizer.

Who: Mexico vs. Uruguay @ 8 PM ET
Where: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, AZ
Watch: FS1, Univision, UDN (TV); Fox Sports Go, UDN app (streaming)
Prediction: 2-1: Like I predicted in the group stage article, this could be very well entertaining. Expect Mexico and Uruguay to trade goals in the first half, before I see Luis Suarez score the game winner for Uruguay in the last half. I also see great goalkeeping from Uruguay's Fernando Muslera and Mexico's Guillermo Ochoa (or whoever starts for Mexico). I see Edinson Cavani (Uruguay) and Javier Hernandez (Mexico; below) also scoring.
