Recap: USA vs. Colombia

In the first match of the Copa America Centenario, Colombia got ahead fast, put another one past US goalkeeper Brad Guzan, and held on for a 2-0 win against the US. In front of a sellout crowd at Levi's Stadium, it didn't take long for Colombia to score. In the 8th minute, Colombian defender Christian Zapata was able to get away from US defender Geoff Cameron, and blasted a strike off a corner for the lead. US forward Clint Dempsey would try to tie it off a long strike outside the box, but it curled wide of the net. 4 minutes later, Colombia had a golden chance of making it 2-0. A Colombian cross deflected off DeAndre Yedlin's hand, and the ref pointed to the spot. James Rodriguez calmed slotted it inside the left post, giving Colombia a bigger lead. The US would have more chances in the next half, but none crossed the line. A header from Dempsey was blocked off the line by Colombian midfielder Sebastian Perez in the 60th minute, and another attempt from Dempsey via a free kick was blocked by Colombian keeper David Ospina. Colombia had a chance to make it 3-0 when Carlos Bacca beat the offside trap, and was 1-on-1 with Guzan, but his shot bounced off the post. With the win, Colombia is first in Group A with 3 points, while the US will stay in last with 0. Their next games will be on June 7.                                                                                                                                  James Rodriguez (10) and Jermaine Jones (13) hustle to the ball.
